Concerning the fire on the underground railway that occurred in Daegu in the Republic of Korea on February 18, Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi has sent a message of sympathy to President Kim Dae Jung of the Republic of Korea.

I feel deep sorrow for the loss of so many precious lives in the fire on the underground railway in Daegu. On behalf of the people and the Government of Japan, I sincerely pray for the repose of the victims.
