I. Note from Mr. Eikichi Hara, Japanese Chargé d'Affaires ad interim, to Mr. Shen Chang-huan, Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Taipei, March 30, 1966

Excellency,

I have the honour to refer to the Provisional Air Transport Arrangements between Japan and the Republic of China of March 15, 1955 as revised by further agreements reached on May 18 and June 18, 1960, respectively.

The Government of Japan desires that Nagoya and Fukuoka be added as intermediate points between Tokyo and Taipei, and conversations in connection with this and other related matters have been held between the

representatives of the Governments of Japan and the Republic of China. In the course of these conversations, the following understandings have been reached:

(1) air route specified in 1. (a) is revised to read:

"1. (a) between Tokyo and Taipei via Nagoya, Osaka, Fukuoka and Okinawa ; and"

(2) air route specified in 1. (b) is revised to read:

"1. (b) between Osaka and Taipei via Fukuoka and Okinawa."

(3) air route specified in 2. (a) is revised to read:

"2. (a) between Taipei and Tokyo via Okinawa, Fukuoka, Osaka and Nagoya; and"

(4) air route specified in 2. (b) is revised to read:

"2. (b) between Taipei and Osaka via Okinawa Fukuoka."

(5) air route specified in 4. (a) (ii) is revised to read:

"4. (a) (ii) to San Francisco via intermediate points in the North Pacific, and to such other points beyond as may be agreed upon later,"

If Your Excellency would confirm on behalf of Your Government that the aforesaid understandings are also the understandings of the Government Of the Republic of China, then this Note and your Excellency's confirming Note shall .be considered as constituting a further agreement between our two Governments. This agreement shall enter into force on the date of Your Excellency's Note in reply.

I avail myself of this opportunity to renew to your Excellency the assurances of my highest consideration.

Monsieur le Chargé d'Affaires,

I have the honeur to acknowledge the receipt of your Note of today's date, which reads as follows:

"I have the honour to refer to the Provisional Air Transport Arrangements between Japan and the Republic of China of March 15, 1955 as revised by further agreements reached on May 18, 1960, respectively.

I have the honour to confirm that the understandings of the Government of Japan embodied in your Note as quoted above are also the understandings of the Republic of China and that your Note and this Note in reply shall be regarded as constituting a further agreement between our two Governments, which shall enter into force on the date of this Note in reply.
