[Title] PALM 5 ISLANDERS' HOKKAIDO DECLARATION ANNEX 1, "PACIFIC ENVIRONMENT COMMUNITY"
| PALM 5 LEADERS' DECLARATION ANNEX 2: ACTION PLAN | ||
On the occasion of the Fifth Pacific Islands Meeting (PALM 5), the Leader of Japan expressed the intention to strengthen partnership with Pacific island countries, in the areas of (i) Environment of climate change, (ii) Overcoming vulnerabilities and promoting human security, and (iii) People-to-people exchange, under the theme of "We are Islanders – Towards a Eco-friendly and Rich Pacific". Focusing on these three pillars, the Government of Japan (GoJ) will support, in a comprehensive manner, Pacific island countries' self-help efforts based on "Pacific Plan". To this end, the Leader of Japan expressed the intention of the GoJ to provide assistance to the extent of 50 billion yen to Pacific island countries over the next three years. The GoJ will consider to cooperate with major doners including Australia, New Zealand, the World bank, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), etc. | ||
