Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held a press occasion at the Prime Minister's Office.

In regard to North Korea's missile launch, the Prime Minister said,

"North Korea has again launched a ballistic missile in disregard of the stern protests and warnings of the international community, firing it into Japan's exclusive economic zone (EEZ). Following upon the recent launch of an ICBM-class missile, this clearly demonstrates that the threat to Japan's security has become grave and real. Japan has lodged a strong protest against North Korea and we condemn this action in the strongest possible terms. As long as North Korea continues such provocative actions, there is no alternative but to further strengthen pressure on North Korea through close cooperation with the United States and the Republic of Korea, and also with China, Russia, and other members of the international community.

There is also the possibility of further provocative actions by North Korea. Under the strong Japan-US alliance, we will maintain a high level of vigilance and take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of the people."
