(On the opening of the Tokyo Olympic Games)

In this four-day holiday, the Olympic flame will finally be lit on the 23rd. I hope that the Games will offer once-in-a-lifetime opportunities for athletes around the world to give young people and children dreams and inspiration through their spectacular achievement. I also wish that Japan's athletes will fully showcase their ability through best performances.

Meanwhile, the Government will make all-out efforts to prevent infections and strive toward the success of the Games. In this connection, we would like to request the public to cheer for athletes in front of the TV and other means at home. At the same time, we would like to seek cooperation in reducing traffic volume by teleworking, among other measures.
