[Title] Press Conference by the Prime Minister regarding the G7 Leaders' Video Conference
(On what was discussed during the G7 leaders' video conference and whether or not the suspension of joint economic activities on the four Northern Islands is being considered as one part of sanctions against Russia)
Just now I participated in the G7 leaders' video conference, where we had frank discussions and confirmed our strong solidarity as the G7 regarding the situation in Ukraine. The recent invasion by Russia is totally unacceptable, as it constitutes an infringement of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity and is a grave violation of international law prohibiting the use of force. As an attempt to unilaterally change the status quo by force, it undermines the very foundation of the international order and Japan strongly condemns Russia. I explained this stance of Japan and declared that as a member of the G7, Japan will respond in complete solidarity and I confirmed that the G7 leaders will act in close cooperation going forward. Also, in response to this invasion by Russian armed forces, in addition to the series of measures announced yesterday, we will work to swiftly adopt even more stringent measures, which will be taken in concert with Europe and the United States in such areas as finance and export controls. We will continue to engage in such measures in cooperation with the G7 and the rest of the international community. After we wrap up here, I will have the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explain to you the details of today's discussion. As for the last part of your question just now, as I just stated, we will work to swiftly engage in even stronger measures, and we intend to lay out the content of those measures within today, Friday.
