[Full text]

As far as we have been informed of damage thus far, there are no abnormalities detected in nuclear power plants. A Tohoku Shinkansen train derailed between Shiroishizao and Fukushima stations, with no reported injuries among passengers. While widespread power outages have occurred, power is expected to be largely restored within an hour in areas served by Tokyo Electric Power Company. In addition, we are requesting cooperation from public transportation companies so that no one would have difficulty in returning home. We have received these reports. I ask the public to keep on paying close attention to earthquake information, stay away from the coast, and take action to protect yourselves. The Chief Cabinet Secretary will give a more detailed briefing shortly after this. Thank you.
