[Title] Press Conference by Prime Minister Ishiba regarding the Declaration of Martial Law in the ROK
(On how the Japanese Government plans to respond to ensure the safety of Japanese nationals residing in the ROK in the ongoing confusion following President Yoon Suk Yeol’s declaration of martial law last night, which he lifted earlier today before dawn; and on the potential effects of this development on the Japan-ROK relations, including the shuttle diplomacy, amid some reports suggesting Prime Minister Ishiba’s plan to visit the ROK at the beginning of next year)
I am not in a position to comment on the internal affairs of other countries. However, we have been paying close attention to the development with serious and particular concern since the declaration of martial law last night. Regarding the safety of Japanese nationals, we have been making utmost efforts, including the immediate issuance of email notifications from our embassy and consulate-generals in the ROK. We will continue to take all possible measures to ensure their safety.
As for my visit to the ROK, no specific details have been decided at this point. In any case, we are monitoring the situation in the country closely, with serious and particular concern.
(On whether there has been any information suggesting damage or injuries to Japanese nationals in the ROK)
As of now, I have not been informed of any damage or injuries regarding Japanese nationals.
