[Title] Press Conference by Prime Minister ISHIBA Shigeru Regarding the Japan-U.S. Consultation on U.S. Tariff Measures, upon Minister Akazawa's Return from the U.S.
(On the content of the report Prime Minister Ishiba received from Minister in charge of Economic Revitalization Akazawa upon his return to Japan after having had meetings with President Trump and others regarding U.S. tariff policy, and on how the Government will engage in negotiations going forward, in light of Minister Akazawa's report)
Minister Akazawa returned from Washington, DC just a short while ago and he provided me with a detailed report on the outcome of the consultation. I am afraid that I am unable to disclose the content in detail, as it also ties in to future negotiations, and I ask for your understanding about that. At the same time, I can say that candid and constructive discussions were held regarding a wide range of topics. I feel the outcome of these talks has laid the groundwork for the next round.
As for what will happen from now, first of all, we are currently coordinating the date for the next round of ministerial-level consultations, which we aim to hold this month, as agreed during the round just held. I have issued instructions to accelerate the Government's internal examination and coordination of various matters related to how we will pursue our discussions so that during the next consultation round we emerge with tangible progress forward. Naturally, we will make all-out efforts to advance necessary measures among our domestic initiatives as well, such as measures to help companies tackle cash-flow problems.
