It is with great sadness that I learned the news that many precious lives have been lost and many people have been forced to evacuate their homes due to the flood and landslide disaster that hit the northern coastal area of the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil. On behalf of the Government of Japan and the people of Japan, I would like to express my heartfelt condolences to the victims and their bereaved families. I would also like to express my deepest sympathies to those affected by the disaster, and my sincere wishes for the earliest possible reconstruction of the affected areas.
