[Full text]

I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations on the occasion of the 12th Mt. Fuji Dialogue.

Although I was unable to attend the meeting today, I would like to express my deep respect to the Japan Center for Economic Research, the Japan Institute of International Affairs, and all those involved for their tremendous efforts in making this dialogue possible.

The Mt. Fuji Dialogue has long served as a premier dialogue of eminent persons from Japan and the United States, fostering intellectual exchange between our two nations and making significant contributions to the strengthening of the Japan-U.S. Alliance.

As confrontations and divisions deepen across the world and the security environment we face grows increasingly severe, it is essential to further strengthen the Japan-U.S. Alliance, which serves as the cornerstone of regional peace and prosperity.

Amid such circumstances, I will proactively engage in a series of important diplomatic events scheduled soon after assuming the office of Prime Minister. To begin with, I will attend the ASEAN-related summit meetings starting today, followed by the visit to Japan by President Trump next week. Subsequently, the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting will also take place.

In particular, President Trump's visit to Japan will serve as an opportunity to deepen the relationship of trust between President Trump and me, and to elevate Japan-U.S. relations to new heights. The Japan-U.S. Alliance is the cornerstone of Japan's foreign and security policy. Beyond bilateral issues, I will work closely with President Trump through candid exchanges of views on a wide range of challenges that Japan and the United States face—from those in the Indo-Pacific region to the situations in the Middle East, Europe, and Ukraine. To protect Japan's national interests, I am determined to restore Japan's diplomacy that flourishes on the world's center stage.

In closing, I sincerely hope that the Mt. Fuji Dialogue will continue to develop as a dialogue that brings together wisdom across the public, private, and academic sectors, and that it will further flourish as an intellectual dialogue as grand as Mt. Fuji itself, with a beautiful and far-reaching base spreading outward.
